The City of High Point improves services delivery and cuts costs with XenDesktop

The City of High Point, North Carolina (population ~115,000), supports about 1,500 public employees across police, sanitation, utilities and other services. Facing constant budget pressure, the IT team needed to reduce desktop hardware costs, increase mobility for field workers, and strengthen disaster-recovery and business-continuity capabilities.

High Point implemented Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop with NetScaler, Access Gateway and the Citrix Receiver to deliver server-hosted virtual desktops and streamed apps to staff and personal devices. The move cut replacement-related desktop spending by roughly $400,000 per year, returned about an hour a day to police officers (equivalent to 1–2 full-time positions), enabled secure remote work and faster disaster recovery, and improved productivity across departments.
