Südbayern GmbH integrates infrastructure for the delivery of IT-as-a-Service with Citrix

Energie Südbayern GmbH, a regional energy provider serving more than 165,000 households and thousands of business customers, faced rising IT complexity after regulatory unbundling created new subsidiaries and outgrown centralized systems. The IT team needed to separate core systems like SAP, support expanded responsibilities for subsidiaries and partners, and reliably deliver roughly 250 applications across 16 sites with limited WAN bandwidth and a mix of niche, high‑resource apps.

By deploying Citrix XenApp (with VM‑Hosted Applications for specialized software), Branch Repeater WAN optimization and NetScaler appliances for load balancing, caching and secure remote access, the company centralized application delivery and accelerated traffic across branches. The solution halved effective WAN bandwidth use (doubling throughput on a 2 Mbit link), improved printing and web response times, simplified management of 250 apps for ~500 users, and strengthened security and availability for internal and external services.
