Spital Uster, a regional hospital near Zurich with about 1,300 employees serving 172,000 people, faced an aging “fat client” IT environment across roughly 800 workstations that caused poor performance, long login/logout times, limited external access and concerns about securing sensitive patient data. The IT team needed a modern, flexible digital workplace that reduced administrative overhead while protecting patient information.

The hospital deployed a Hosted Desktop Infrastructure using Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops on HPE Moonshot, with Imprivata OneSign for badge-based single sign‑on and Citrix Gateway/Endpoint Management for secure remote and mobile access. The integrated solution delivered high-density, high-performance user sessions, “follow‑me” desktops across devices, simplified single‑vDisk updates and lower energy and admin effort — resulting in faster logins, better application performance, stronger security controls and high user and IT satisfaction during the phased rollout.
