Southcoast Health System - Customer Case Study

Southcoast Health System, a not‑for‑profit provider in New Bedford, MA with three hospitals, 27 physician offices and about 7,000 staff, needed to support rapid growth across distributed outpatient sites while delivering a consistent patient experience. The organization faced the challenge of giving physicians, nurses and visiting clinicians seamless, device‑agnostic access to patient records, protecting sensitive data in a bring‑your‑own‑device environment, and keeping IT overhead low.

Southcoast implemented Epic as its integrated EMR and deployed a Citrix solution (XenApp, XenDesktop, XenMobile, XenServer and NetScaler on Cisco UCS) to deliver secure, centrally managed access to Epic and 50 other applications. The platform enabled BYOD support and centralized management, kept operational overhead under 2% of the annual budget, quadrupled system usage within two years, minimized downtime and strengthened proactive protection of patient information—positioning the health system for continued growth.
