SAS - Customer Case Study

SAS, a major Scandinavian airline serving about 28 million passengers and 1,100 daily departures to roughly 130 destinations, needed to improve flexibility, safety and punctuality while cutting costs. A central challenge was digitizing the pilots’ Electronic Flight Bag to eliminate about 44 kg of paper per aircraft (and roughly 18 tons fleet‑wide), reducing administrative burden and fuel consumption.

SAS deployed 1,600 iPads managed with Citrix XenMobile MDM (SIMs, automatic updates, role‑based app provisioning and remote wipe), loading weather, flight manuals, fuel-ordering and flight‑briefing apps so pilots get up‑to‑date information digitally. The solution simplified administration, made pilots more self‑reliant, enabled automatic rollouts, removed paper from cockpits and delivered ongoing fuel and cost savings through reduced weight and improved operational efficiency.
