Salvation Army helps more people more quickly with Citrix

The Salvation Army UK & Republic of Ireland, a large charity with more than 600 community churches and about 5,500 officers, employees and volunteers supported by a 30‑person IT team, faced rising costs and reliability problems from a traditional PC‑based desktop estate. PCs were expensive to maintain, tethered users to desks, caused long and inconsistent logon times, and increased support incidents — the organisation needed a more flexible, secure and cost‑effective way to deliver desktops.

The Salvation Army implemented Citrix XenDesktop with Dell Wyse thin clients and Citrix Receiver for remote devices, moving to a “no more PCs” model. This delivered consistent sub‑60 second logins and clean daily desktops, simpler management (fast OS upgrades), extended device life, lower total cost of ownership, secure remote access for home and street visits, and faster, more flexible service delivery to people in need.
