Case Study: Alpika Service achieves a flexible, scalable, secure IT infrastructure with Citrix XenDesktop and XenServer

Russian Ski Resort, Alpika Service, deploys Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix XenServer for a more flexible and scalable IT-infrastructure

Alpika Service, a Russian ski resort on the Aibga Ridge, needed a modern, secure and centrally managed IT infrastructure to replace aging workstations, reduce energy costs, protect corporate data and simplify administration while improving service quality and fault tolerance. The resort sought a solution that would deliver virtual desktops, secure access and streamlined license and application management for a geographically distributed workforce.

Working with Citrix partner COMPLETE, Alpika Service deployed Citrix XenDesktop and XenServer to deliver virtual desktops to thin clients and consolidate servers and storage (3 servers + 1 storage). The VDI rollout centralized management, boosted data security and high availability, and made administration and application delivery faster and more scalable. The migration cut workstation power use nearly tenfold (55 PCs at 200–300 W replaced by 55 thin clients at 20–24 W plus server hardware), while delivering greater flexibility, fault tolerance and a platform for future expansion.
