Registers of Scotland celebrates 400 years with workplace transformation

Registers of Scotland, the government agency that maintains Scotland’s public land and legal registers, needed to modernize as its office lease ended and the government’s Digital First agenda progressed. The organisation faced aging bespoke applications, an outdated PBX telephone system and an in-house datacenter, and wanted to redesign the workplace to free people from desk-bound working while improving security and efficiency.

Working with Citrix Consulting, RoS implemented XenDesktop and XenApp, migrated to a private cloud with IGEL thin clients and adopted Skype for Business, giving about 1,300 staff secure, anywhere access to apps and communications. The move delivered a one-floor office with a 7:10 desk-to-person ratio, 70–75% fewer physical servers, lower power and cooling needs, hundreds of saved IT hours per month, stronger data protection and a flexible platform for future needs.
