Red Cross Asylum Department - Customer Case Study

The Red Cross Asylum Department, which runs most Danish asylum centers, faced major interoperability challenges: about 1,000 Mac workstations struggled to share documents reliably with Windows-based authorities and municipalities, complicating daily operations and collaboration.

The department implemented a centralized Citrix solution (starting with MetaFrame XP and evolving to XenApp) that let Macs act as clients while converting 1.4 million documents to Windows format and using NetScaler for firewalling and secure remote access for municipalities. The result was a cost‑effective, centrally managed platform that reused existing hardware, improved document exchange, enhanced security and performance (faster attachments, streaming audio and printing), and made better use of public funds.
