Purdue University advances research and education with secure digital workspaces

Purdue University’s Composites Manufacturing and Simulation Center (CMSC) needed a way to give industry partners, researchers and students remote access to Windows-based CAD/CAM and simulation workflows and to share very large files securely. The center’s HUBzero team had a Linux-based platform but lacked Windows support and wanted a cloud solution that would scale, be easy to manage, and meet strict security and performance needs.

HUBzero deployed Citrix XenDesktop Service via the Citrix Cloud on AWS to create the Composites Virtual Factory HUB (cvfHUB), using HDX for smooth graphics streaming and end-to-end encryption for security. The result: faster, more productive users who can run long jobs, suspend/resume work and collaborate seamlessly; reduced IT overhead with cloud management; scalable access for partners and students without capital expenditures; and plans to expand Citrix-based deployments.
