Public oil and gas company of Argentina virtualizes its operations with Citrix

YPF, Argentina’s largest oil and gas company with operations across multiple basins and a 16,000‑user technology footprint, faced fragmented regional support and poor remote performance. VPN links added encryption latency that limited users to email and a few basic apps, while hundreds of owned and outsourced sites and remote satellite connections needed secure, centrally managed access and better mobile support.

YPF piloted Citrix virtualization (XenApp/XenDesktop) and deployed XenMobile, NetScaler and ShareFile plus MDM to publish applications and secure file sharing without heavy VPN use. The virtualized environment enabled business apps (including OpenWells and ArcGIS) to run from remote and mobile devices, sped up and centralized file sharing, reduced help‑desk and on‑site support costs, and created a secure platform for outsourced developers—with plans to expand virtualized services further.
