Peruvian University of Applied Sciences uses Citrix Technology to Manage the Resources of Their Campus

The Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC), a multi‑campus university in Lima with over 30,000 students, needed to provide reliable remote access to campus applications and labs while making better use of limited software licenses. Students and faculty required on‑demand availability for resource‑intensive apps (AutoCAD, Photoshop, programming tools, etc.), but physical lab licenses were underused and access scheduling was cumbersome.

UPC virtualized 48 applications using Citrix XenApp and NetScaler on Dell servers and integrated Citrix with its Socrates academic system via PowerShell to allow reservations and concurrent use. The pilot enabled 250 simultaneous connections, increased student practice availability from 240 to 168,000 hours per month (a 70,000% rise) without buying new licenses, and delivered a projected five‑year ROI of $1.4M from a $470,000 investment.
