A Citrix Case Study
CRONIMET, a global specialist in stainless steel scrap, ferroalloys and primary metals founded in Karlsruhe in 1980, has grown to more than 50 subsidiaries and 4,000 employees worldwide. As the company expanded through acquisitions, its ageing ERP client became highly sensitive to network fluctuations—causing freezes, data loss and long delays in remote offices (notably Shanghai)—and IT faced rising administration overhead from managing many distributed terminals.
CRONIMET centralized the ERP client on Citrix XenApp servers, added NetScaler MPX appliances for SSL VPN and load balancing, and deployed Citrix Branch Repeater (including VPX) for WAN optimization. The result: applications remain available during interruptions, administration time dropped since updates are done once on the servers, mobile and home users gain secure access, printing and application response in remote sites improved, and bandwidth needs were cut by up to 90%, boosting branch productivity.
