Montefiore rolls out electronic medical records in a heartbeat

Montefiore Health System, a large hospital network in the Bronx, faced a major challenge: meet new regulations by rolling out the EPIC electronic medical records system across a rapidly growing workforce (from 18,000 to 28,000 employees) without disrupting patient care. The scale, timeline and need to integrate scanners, printers and medical devices made the deployment especially complex.

Montefiore deployed a Citrix-based solution—XenApp and XenDesktop for app delivery, Provisioning Services for centralized management, NetScaler and Receiver for secure remote access, and HDX Insight for performance monitoring—and delivered EPIC to 10,000+ devices in under 12 months. The rollout enabled secure anywhere access, simplified patching and rollbacks, improved troubleshooting, and saved the organization more than $5M in hardware and $2M in storage while accelerating implementation and protecting patient care.
