Case Study: Medway Council achieves £1M savings and 24% lower energy use with Citrix

A Citrix Case Study

Preview of the Medway Council Case Study

Medway Council delivers better for less

Medway Council, which serves 270,000 people across urban and rural Kent, faced tight budgets, an ICT estate of more than 100 sites and many PCs past their economic life. With desk utilisation at just 50–60%, the council sought to drive efficiency by enabling flexible working, centralising procurement and reducing its property footprint.

Medway implemented a Citrix XenDesktop virtual desktop solution (delivered with Thintech) and rolled out Dell Wyse thin clients, starting with the most complex departments. The move cut energy use by about 24%, is projected to save roughly £1 million over five years, enabled office consolidation (including bringing Children’s Services into one building), improved login times and collaboration, and strengthened data security through centralised servers and USB encryption; 500 of 2,800 desktops have been migrated and mobile/telephony plans are next.
