Case Study: Magruder Hospital achieves instant access to Cerner healthcare applications with Citrix

A Citrix Case Study

Preview of the Magruder Hospital Case Study

Magruder Hospital delivers instant access to Cerner healthcare applications

Magruder Hospital, a community provider in Port Clinton, Ohio, wanted to improve patient safety and meet meaningful-use standards but faced fragmented systems, limited budgets and a small IT staff. Partnering with nearby Fisher-Titus Medical Center through the Ohio Healthcare Technology Alliance, the hospitals selected Cerner’s Smart Room solutions and chose Citrix virtualization to deliver integrated clinical applications and anywhere, any-device access.

Using Citrix XenApp to virtualize 39 Cerner applications hosted remotely, Magruder delivered full clinical desktops to thin clients, tablets and smartphones with fast biometric and presence-based authentication. The deployment enabled 150 concurrent users at Magruder (400 at Fisher-Titus), simplified endpoint rollout and management, supported disaster continuity (accessing records via a laptop and hotspot during floods), reduced log-in times and staffing needs, and allowed rapid onboarding of additional hospitals into the shared environment.
