Leading automaker cuts commute time for 3D engineers with Citrix virtual desktop

PSA Peugeot Citroën, the second-largest Europe-based automaker, relies on distributed 3D design teams across 10 countries to develop new vehicle models. The company faced slow remote access, network bottlenecks and high costs from data-intensive 3D CAD applications that required expensive local workstations, making mobile design and subcontractor collaboration difficult.

PSA virtualized its CAD workstations with Citrix XenServer and XenDesktop (plus HP and NVIDIA technologies) and uses Citrix PVS for image management, enabling designers to access high-performance 3D apps from any standard workstation or device. The rollout now supports about 2,000 employees daily across 10 countries, reduces hardware costs by standardizing equipment, enables secure remote collaboration with subcontractors and provides low-latency access up to 1,200 km from the data center, with plans to scale further.
