A Citrix Case Study
Consulate Health Care, one of the largest U.S. senior healthcare providers with more than 200 care centers, 23,000 employees and over 40,000 patients served annually, faced rising application support costs as it expanded nationally. Rapid growth, a distributed and mobile workforce, and a mix of modern and legacy apps made local server- and PC-based support unsustainable while IT needed to preserve the existing user experience and give support teams centralized tools for maintenance.
Consulate virtualized its Microsoft Windows applications with Citrix XenApp and Provisioning Services, moving apps to a centralized server farm and delivering them as secure mobile services. The change cut administration time dramatically (weeks of testing and updates reduced to minutes), lowered server storage needs (node storage reduced from 60 GB to 20 GB, saving 4.5 TB), extended the usable life of endpoint PCs, strengthened data security, and improved responsiveness to caregivers — with further Citrix-based initiatives underway for load balancing, virtual desktops and mobile management.
