A Citrix Case Study
Kriminalvården, Sweden’s prison and probation service with more than 100 locations and 11,000 staff, faced rising costs and complexity supporting 7,000 PCs across the country, inconsistent remote performance for staff, and limited, non-secure options for inmate education. They needed a secure, flexible desktop solution that reduced on-site maintenance, improved remote access, and allowed controlled, monitored access to educational resources for inmates.
Using Citrix XenApp and XenServer, Kriminalvården centralised desktop software in the data centre and deployed hosted shared desktops to thin clients—plus a tailored INIT desktop for inmates. The rollout (7,000 thin clients, 1,000 in prisons) cut management time and costs through fast provisioning and remote support, delivered consistent performance and mobile access for staff, and gave inmates secure access to educational applications and monitored internet access, with plans to extend remote access control via NetScaler and XenMobile.
