Knightec - Customer Case Study

Knightec, a Swedish technical consultancy with 350 engineers, faced slow project starts and high hardware costs because teams had to be co-located and supplied with professional CAD workstations for each engagement. The distributed model made provisioning, shipping and supporting CAD software cumbersome, so the firm needed secure, high-performance access to CAD tools from anywhere without installing or distributing expensive workstations.

Working with partner AceIQ AB, Knightec deployed Citrix XenDesktop with HDX 3D Pro (plus XenServer and NetScaler) to deliver CATIA, Inventor, Pro/Engineer and ANSYS as VDI accessed via Citrix Receiver. Engineers now work from any device or location; project lead time fell from three weeks to 1–2 days, ANSYS calculations run about 4× faster, the need for high-end local workstations has been cut (older units repurposed as thin clients), costs and travel are reduced, and the firm can assemble teams faster and take on larger projects.
