King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre is a leading tertiary care provider with more than 1,500 beds across three sites in Riyadh and Jeddah, serving 12,000+ staff and running its core administration system on 7,000+ workstations. The hospital’s IT Affairs team faced a growing management burden: troubleshooting and updating widely distributed “fat” clients required physical visits, caused delays that affected patient care, and left data dispersed on local machines, creating security, confidentiality and operational challenges.
The IT team centralized applications and data using Citrix XenApp with Citrix NetScaler and NetScaler Gateway, piloting in Jeddah before rolling the solution out across both hospitals. The result: on-demand, centrally managed access to core systems with secure remote and BYOD connectivity, improved availability through load balancing, faster upgrades and issue resolution, reduced onsite support and operating costs, stronger data security and better continuity — with plans to extend the environment using Citrix XenDesktop.
