Kindred Healthcare integrates diverse organizations with Citrix virtual desktops

Kindred Healthcare, a Louisville-based healthcare services company with about $6 billion in revenue and roughly 76,900 employees across more than 2,250 locations, was growing rapidly through acquisitions. The company needed to onboard large, diverse organizations—most recently RehabCare—by provisioning access to 22 financial applications for about 25,000 new users on day one despite having limited prior access to the acquired environment.

Kindred deployed Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp to deliver virtual desktops and applications instantly, enabling secure, centralized access from any device while keeping acquired networks isolated. The approach accelerated integrations, preserved continuity of care, improved operational efficiency (managed by a small admin team), and gave clinicians and staff on-demand access to systems such as SAP and Meditech.
