Case Study: IIS Moretti achieves flexible, industry-grade virtual CAD workstations and reduced IT costs with Citrix XenDesktop

ISS Moretti - Customer Case Study

IIS "Vincenzo Moretti," a technical high school in Abruzzo with about 1,000 students, needed to modernize PC labs to support diverse, graphics‑intensive courses (programming, surveying, fashion/CAD) but faced tight education budgets and high maintenance overhead. Replacing every workstation with high‑end PCs was impractical, and the school initially ruled out virtualization because of past GPU limitations.

Partnering with Dataone, the Institute deployed Citrix XenDesktop with HDX 3D Pro and NVIDIA GRID K1 vGPU, converting old PCs to ThinPC or thin clients, using Citrix NetScaler for remote access and Machine Creation Services for stateless VMs to deliver 50 virtual graphics workstations. The result: industry‑grade, centrally managed labs accessible from any terminal or home, lower hardware and admin costs, simplified updates and maintenance, improved security and consistent performance for all students.
