A Citrix Case Study
Independent Bank, a $3 billion Michigan-based bank with more than 100 offices and about 1,300 employees, faced inconsistent desktop experiences and heavy branch PC management overhead. With roughly 1,000 branch PCs running local Windows instances, IT spent excessive time on patches, virus updates and troubleshooting, while limited bandwidth and regulatory requirements made centralized management and business continuity increasingly important.
The bank deployed a Citrix end-to-end virtualization stack—XenApp (Platinum), XenDesktop (Enterprise) with provisioning services, XenServer (Platinum) and NetScaler Access Gateway—to stream a single “golden” OS image, deliver 120 applications, and provide secure remote access. The results: consistent user experiences at reboot, dramatically lower bandwidth use for rich media (10x in tests), higher VM user density, easier troubleshooting and centralized administration, extended PC lifespan and stronger business-continuity and remote-access capabilities.
