HVB Leasing optimizes server performance through virtualization

HVB Leasing, a leading German leasing provider (part of UniCredit) with headquarters in Hamburg and 10 branches, faced rising IT complexity as it supported branch, mobile and home-office users. The datacenter needed more capacity but the 32-bit Windows Server 2003 environment limited memory and user density, so the IT team aimed to improve server efficiency and avoid large hardware investments.

The company deployed Citrix XenApp for application delivery and Citrix XenServer for virtualization, plus Citrix Access Gateway for secure remote access, migrating the XenApp farm and consolidating ~20 servers. The move quadrupled user density per host, cut hardware and operating costs, enabled rapid host provisioning (about 10 minutes), and—using XenMotion—allowed maintenance without interrupting user sessions.
