Hurriyet enhances web application availability and security with Citrix NetScaler

Hurriyet, Turkey’s largest newspaper and one of Europe’s biggest media publishers with an online presence since 1996, faced frequent web-server outages and unreliable 600 Mb/sec internet service caused by DNS Round Robin load balancing across its Istanbul and Ankara datacenters. These availability and security issues threatened audience retention and growth, so the IT team sought a secure, reliable load‑balancing solution.

Hurriyet replaced DNS with Citrix NetScaler appliances—initially MPX 9000 series and later MPX 10500s in each datacenter, with plans to move to SDX 17550s—and deployed the NetScaler ADC to optimize delivery, scalability and security. The change delivered 100% website availability, halved DDoS attack impact, and boosted unique visitors and page views by about 10%, while enabling future use of App Firewall and SDX for further scaling and protection.
