Hospital provides continuity, mobility to staff and patients with Citrix solutions

Taranaki District Health Board (TDHB), the sole health provider for New Plymouth and the wider Taranaki region of New Zealand, needed to modernize its core IT as part of a hospital upgrade. The IT team faced pressure to support bring-your-own-device workflows, tighter security, higher application performance and greater redundancy across two datacenters—requirements that exceeded the existing Citrix XenApp 5 environment and available budget until the building program provided funding.

TDHB migrated to Citrix XenApp 6.5, upgraded network switching, and deployed Citrix NetScaler, XenMobile, ShareFile and Citrix Receiver to deliver apps and manage devices. The result: clinicians can securely use their own devices for remote and field care, application uptime and performance have improved through load balancing and redundancy, administrators gained traffic visibility for faster troubleshooting, and data is kept in the datacenter to reduce breach risk and lower device costs.
