Hennepin County Medical Center leverages Citrix to improve patient care

Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) is Minnesota’s leading Level‑1 adult and pediatric trauma center and a major safety‑net hospital serving downtown Minneapolis and more than 20 clinics. Faced with new EHR mandates (Epic), stringent HIPAA requirements, and the need to support over 4,000 users on nonstandard, often outdated devices with limited IT resources, HCMC needed a way to standardize computing, secure patient data, and enable clinicians to access high‑quality records and images from anywhere.

HCMC deployed Citrix XenDesktop, XenApp and Receiver with centralized image streaming and HDX multimedia delivery, enabling secure BYOD access, rapid provisioning, and full‑fidelity viewing of cardiac and radiology images from hospital and home. The solution cut transcription costs via integrated voice recognition, unlocked HITECH meaningful‑use funding, earned HIMSS Stage 6 recognition, and scaled to more than 4,500 XenDesktop licenses—improving clinician workflow, patient care and IT efficiency.
