Hedensted Municipality, a highly ranked Danish municipality for residents and businesses, faced a major IT challenge when preparing for a structural merger of local municipalities and a broader push to digitize services. With a small IT team, officials needed to centralize data and build an infrastructure that would support mobile working, secure access to sensitive municipal data, and better support business and citizen-facing processes.

Hedensted implemented a Citrix-based solution—including XenDesktop, XenApp, XenServer, XenClient, XenMobile and NetScaler—to create a centrally managed, secure mobile workspace. Using XenMobile’s sandboxing and MDM to push apps and settings, plus offline-capable clients for healthcare, the municipality gained end-to-end data control, reduced risky workarounds, and now supports 2,500 users with a low-maintenance, business-friendly IT platform while preparing for a formal BYOD program.
