Hastie Group slashes bandwidth costs with Citrix Branch Repeater

Hastie Group, a Sydney‑headquartered provider of building services and refrigeration with more than 3,000 employees and around 80 branches across Australia, New Zealand, the UK and UAE, faced mounting WAN congestion as rapid growth and a push to centralize IT in the datacenter increased traffic for branch collaboration and application delivery. The IT team needed to improve responsiveness for diverse applications—including XenApp, Pronto‑Xi and Microsoft Office—without simply buying more bandwidth.

Hastie deployed Citrix Branch Repeater at 16 major sites and the datacenter, choosing it for ease of deployment and performance. The appliances cut overall bandwidth use by about 50% (with up to 80% savings for FTP, 71% for intranet HTTP and 60% for CIFS), enabled the use of cheaper WAN links in some locations, improved end‑user experience and productivity, and delivered a payback in roughly six months while allowing prioritized, datacenter‑based application delivery.
