A Citrix Case Study
Groupe Promutuel, a Quebec-based insurer operating 26 independent entities across more than 140 widely dispersed offices, faced the challenge of delivering consistent IT services to 1,650 internal users and 1,500 external resellers over limited WAN links (from ADSL to 3G) and remote sites far beyond fiber reach. Increasing bandwidth or deploying and maintaining hardware in the field was neither feasible nor cost-effective, so the company needed a way to improve application performance, centralize management, and reduce remote hardware dependency within existing network capacity.
Using Citrix solutions—NetScaler (including VPX and SD‑WAN), XenDesktop/XenApp and XenServer integrated with Cisco UCS—Groupe Promutuel virtualized edge services and centrally delivered desktops and applications while optimizing WAN traffic. The approach produced dramatic results: up to a five-fold improvement in application performance over constrained links, simplified upgrades and IT operations, stronger security and centralized control of data, and a scalable platform for business continuity and growth.
