A Citrix Case Study
GIE IRIHS is a six‑person IT group formed by consolidating the IT departments of three social‑housing organizations that manage about 35,000 units and support roughly 250 office users plus hundreds of caretakers. Faced with widely distributed workstations across multiple offices and guardian lodges, rising laptop and remote‑work demands, streaming/Flash performance issues, and the need for secure, centralized data access and business‑continuity options, GIE needed to optimize and simplify administration without adding staff.
GIE implemented a Citrix‑based solution—centralizing desktops with thin clients and XenApp (upgraded to XenApp 5/Platinum), virtualizing servers with XenServer and Essentials, rolling out XenDesktop 4 for selective desktop virtualization, and using Citrix Access Gateway for secure remote access. The result was faster application performance with lower bandwidth/CPU use, consolidated server and desktop management, reliable multimedia and printing support, unlimited secure remote connections, quicker user provisioning, higher user satisfaction and more IT time focused on users.
