A Citrix Case Study
Louisville Gas and Electric Company (LG&E) and Kentucky Utilities Company (KU), part of PPL Corporation and serving about 1.3 million customers across Kentucky and parts of Virginia, were pushing toward mobile, paperless operations for field crews but ran into connectivity and availability problems. Wireless in power plants was unreliable, and their existing load‑balancing solution couldn’t consistently handle traffic for the iPad‑based apps and XenMobile MDM, leaving employees unable to access critical apps and data and requiring a more secure, resilient platform.
LG&E and KU consolidated onto Citrix NetScaler SDX appliances running on Intel Xeon processors to replace aging load balancers and unify app delivery for XenApp, XenDesktop, XenMobile and ShareFile. The NetScaler SDX deployment delivered high availability, seamless failover and GSLB across two data centers (four SDX appliances), ensured consistent mobile access and 100% uptime during traffic surges, reduced data‑center complexity and costs through consolidation, and improved field and IT productivity while enabling continued paperless workflows.
