Essar Steel Secures Critical Data through Citrix XenDesktop

Essar Steel, a global integrated steel producer with a large Hazira plant, faced significant IT challenges: protecting intellectual property in a competitive industry, coping with a harsh, dust- and heat-filled plant environment that caused frequent equipment failures, and reducing capital and management overhead while enabling employees to access their desktops from anywhere across long site distances.

Essar deployed Citrix XenDesktop (a mix of shared hosted desktops and VDI) with thin clients, centralized datacenter services, Riverbed WAN optimization, NetScaler load balancing and a 10 Gb LAN. The rollout (covering 100 Hazira desktops used by 200 users plus additional service-center users) delivered centrally secured virtual desktops accessible from any device, reduced data-loss risk, cut hardware refresh and support costs (about 200 PC refreshes avoided) and simplified IT management, with plans to expand to many more users.
