Case Study: Essar Group achieves centralized data security and operational efficiency with Citrix XenDesktop

Essar adopts desktop virtualization to boost data security and efficiency

Essar Group, a multinational conglomerate active in steel, oil & gas, power and other sectors with about 75,000 employees worldwide, faced growing data-security and management challenges as mobility and BYOD adoption rose. With roughly 8,000 desktops across a distributed workforce and thousands of users on BlackBerrys and tablets, Essar needed to protect critical information, streamline hardware management and support secure remote working.

After a proof-of-concept, Essar implemented Citrix XenDesktop and NetScaler to deliver virtual desktops and applications to its mobile workforce. The project migrated about 5,000 users (75–80% of target users) and deployed 8,000 XenDesktop licenses, centralizing data in the data centre, improving end-user experience and reducing management overhead, while giving IT greater control, governance and a scalable platform for broader rollout.
