A Citrix Case Study

Emory Healthcare makes Citrix virtualization the cure-all for clinician access

Emory Healthcare, the clinical arm of Emory University and the largest health system in Georgia with four hospitals, 1,000 physicians and 10,000 employees, faced the challenge of modernizing IT to give clinicians reliable, mobile access to electronic medical records and clinical apps while scaling virtual desktops on demand and cutting desktop delivery costs by half.

By expanding its Citrix environment—adding XenDesktop, XenServer, provisioning services, EdgeSight and Password Manager to its existing XenApp deployment—Emory centralized management, enabled smooth roaming and single sign-on, sped troubleshooting and simplified provisioning. The outcome was a leaner IT operation (one admin can manage ~350 desktops or ~150 virtual servers), lower hardware and overhead costs, faster clinician access to Cerner and PACS, improved uptime and greater scalability for disaster recovery.
