Education provider builds secure, scalable and flexible cloud for 25,000 students and staff

Windesheim, a large university of applied sciences in the Netherlands, needed to enable remote work for 25,000 students and staff but its aging infrastructure—Microsoft ISA 2006 reverse proxy and unsupported F5 load balancers—couldn’t handle more load. The university sought a single solution that combined reverse proxy, load balancing and claims-based authentication for single sign-on.

Windesheim selected Citrix NetScaler, deploying two SDX appliances hosting five virtual NetScalers in HA to accelerate and secure Lync, Exchange, SharePoint and mobile synchronization. The rollout delivered fast, reliable access for 25,000 users, dramatically improved Lync call quality, simplified application migrations with virtual appliances, and provided a scalable, future-proof platform that centralizes monitoring, SSL offload and authentication.
