Desktop Virtualization Opens Up New Possibilities for Hospital IT

Marienhaus Klinikum Eifel is a three‑site hospital network in Germany that needed to integrate the IT of the recently acquired St. Elisabeth Hospital Gerolstein quickly—about 150 workstations in roughly four months—while consolidating clinical systems, migrating databases and merging Active Directory and application infrastructures.

The IT team, with IT‑HAUS support, deployed Citrix XenDesktop VDI and Citrix WAN optimization to host personalized virtual desktops in the Bitburg data center. Central profile management shortened logins, WAN caching cut bandwidth use to roughly one third, and staff gained flexible, secure access from thin clients and mobile devices. The rollout reduced desktop administration time, improved application performance across sites and enabled faster, more mobile patient care.
