A Citrix Case Study
de Alliantie is the second-largest housing cooperative in the Netherlands, managing about 60,000 homes and a centralized ICT department. Facing rising space, cost and sustainability pressures, the organization wanted to consolidate its datacenter, remove physical servers, and become a cost‑effective, flexible and green provider of software‑as‑a‑service (SaaS)—in particular a desktop‑as‑a‑service model—to better serve its 700 employees across multiple offices.
de Alliantie virtualized its infrastructure using Citrix XenApp (later upgraded to XenDesktop), HP blade servers and thin clients, running some 170 virtual machines on a SAN and twin‑datacenter architecture. The result was a much smaller, greener datacenter with high uptime, simplified management by a four‑person IT team, easy scaling to add users and applications, and improved remote access capabilities—delivering a successful, efficient desktop‑as‑a‑service offering.
