DCLG meets user needs for greater efficiency with XenApp

The UK Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG), with 2,600 staff across 20 sites, faced a shift to more mobile and flexible working that its traditional PC‑based environment could not support. Users experienced slow, clunky profile roaming, occasional home or part‑time mobile workers lacked secure remote access, and any new solution had to meet Public Services Network security rules while reducing costs.

Working with Fujitsu and Citrix, DCLG deployed XenApp with thin‑client terminals, NetScaler Gateway and Citrix Receiver, plus XenMobile/Worx and two‑factor authentication to enable secure remote and BYOD access. The new virtual desktop environment boosted user satisfaction by 50 percentage points, cut desktop spending by about 40% (from £7M to £4M), increased workforce flexibility and agility (including a 70% desk‑to‑staff ratio), and sped up user provisioning.
