Custom homebuilder remodels aging IT environment with Citrix mobile workspace apps and delivery infrastructure

Wayne Homes, a custom homebuilder based in Uniontown, Ohio, with 170 employees across six regional divisions, faced an urgent IT crisis in 2008: they had to leave their parent company’s datacenter immediately, replace aging PCs, and rapidly equip a workforce that spends much of its time in the field and works remotely. The company needed a fast, low‑cost way to deliver productivity tools to builders, sales reps and other remote staff.

Wayne Homes implemented Citrix XenApp, XenDesktop and XenMobile with thin/zero clients and mobile devices, virtualizing about 85% of its environment. The move cut capital costs (from a projected >$300K to $120K, paid back in 18 months), saved roughly $18K/year in power, reduced IT workload, sped app rollouts and mobile management, and boosted field productivity, customer communication and overall business agility.
