Case Study: Stadtverwaltung Bergheim achieves lower IT costs and greater flexibility with Citrix

City Council takes the path to the cloud

Stadtverwaltung Bergheim moved its IT operations to a private cloud to replace a traditional client-server setup that was driving up support work, making software rollouts cumbersome, and complicating reliability and data protection. Working with Citrix and the municipal data center kdvz Rhein-Erft-Rur, the city sought a more efficient, flexible way to deliver applications and manage IT services for its users.

Citrix implemented a centralized, virtualized application delivery environment using Citrix XenApp, XenServer, and related Citrix technologies, enabling on-demand access to more than 100 applications and monthly usage-based billing. The results included over 29% lower IT spending per job, an expected annual savings of around 40,000 euros, reduced support costs, and improved availability, security, recovery, and response times.
