Case Study: Landeshauptstadt Wiesbaden achieves secure, centralized eAkte access and simplified application integration with Citrix

A Citrix Case Study

Citrix supports the introduction of eAkte in Wiesbaden

The state capital Wiesbaden set out to modernize its administration by replacing paper case files with a fully electronic records system (eAkte), converting over 880 users across departments. The city faced large paper archives, complex dependencies between the new eAkte and many specialized legacy applications (SAP, GES‑KA, CABS), and a need for a reliable, secure infrastructure to support location‑independent access and high availability.

Wiesbaden implemented a centralized, service‑oriented IT architecture in partnership with T‑Systems and WIVERTIS, virtualizing specialized applications on Citrix XenApp (running on VMware vSphere with Citrix Provisioning Services) and securing access with Citrix NetScaler, while integrating systems via an Enterprise Service Bus. The result was simplified application integration and administration, faster rollouts, resilient operations across two data centers, secure remote and mobile access, and measurable efficiency and space savings.
