Carlo Poma Hospital of Mantua Citrix Solutions in the Field of Public Health

Carlo Poma Hospital of Mantua faced rising costs and complexity from a growing PC estate and a regional mandate (SISS) that left about 550 workstations below required hardware and software standards. Needing to meet compliance deadlines and avoid repeated, costly desktop refreshes, the hospital evaluated virtualization vendors and sought a way to centralize management, improve security and extend the life of its endpoints.

The hospital deployed a Citrix-based centralized desktop and application delivery architecture—using XenDesktop, XenServer and XenApp—starting with a 600-user rollout and plans to virtualize at least half the estate. The solution simplified management and updates, tightened data security and application standardization, increased service availability and productivity, and delivered an expected return on investment in under two years with projected operating-cost savings of over 70%.
