A Citrix Case Study
Dataport, the public-sector IT service provider for six German states and numerous local authorities, consolidated six data centres into two geo‑redundant sites to support more than 600 administrative processes and over 100,000 Exchange users. The move created a shared infrastructure that demanded strict security, granular access control and highly reliable load balancing to prevent cross‑network access and ensure uninterrupted citizen and administrative services.
Dataport deployed Citrix Networking (ADC/NetScaler) with Citrix Gateway, Web App Firewall and Application Delivery Management to encrypt and control access, protect web applications from DDoS/SQLi/XSS and zero‑day threats, and replace legacy load‑balancing appliances. The solution enabled role‑based remote access with multi‑factor authentication, intelligent health‑aware load balancing and SSL offload, resulting in fewer service failures (notably in SharePoint), higher availability for roughly 500 centrally provided applications, improved backend performance, and compliance with German BSI standards.
