Cerner Corporation, a global health care IT provider, faced rising demand for BYOD and new device types after the introduction of tablets and smartphones, along with developers’ preference for Apple platforms. Cerner upgraded to Citrix XenDesktop (Platinum) with NetScaler and XenApp, delivering 1,000 virtual desktops (standard and power-user images) and using Workflow Studio and provisioning services to automate three-hour code refreshes with zero downtime. The result: noticeably faster response times in India, much quicker onboarding, about $200,000 saved in hardware costs last year versus issuing laptops, nearly $400,000 saved on testing, and the potential to cut device costs by up to 50%.
