Asklepios Kliniken Nordhessen uses Virtual desktops in clinical practice

Asklepios Kliniken Nordhessen, part of the Asklepios Group (one of Europe’s largest private hospital operators), needed to consolidate and modernize IT across a regional cluster of hospitals and clinics. The challenge was to centralize application delivery, eliminate distributed servers, speed software updates and integrations across seven locations for about 1,200 users while supporting mobile ward workstations and secure remote access.

The IT team deployed a Citrix-based solution (XenDesktop, XenApp and XenServer with Provisioning Services and Access Gateway), virtualizing roughly 90% of servers on 16 host machines and replacing PCs with energy‑saving Wyse thin clients. The result: centralized IT operations in Bad Wildungen, faster deployments and seamless clinic integrations, roaming desktops for staff, secure remote access and major hardware consolidation (server rooms now one third occupied), enabling smoother migrations (e.g., to Windows 7) and improved overall efficiency and user experience.
