Argentine Government virtualizes applications and servers with Citrix

The Argentine Government’s Department of Finance (Ministry of Economy and Public Finance) provides core financial applications—SIDIF/SLU and UEPEX—to more than 11,000 users across a growing network of agencies (from 25 to 112). Rapid adoption strained its infrastructure—two server farms, hundreds of servers and databases—and created challenges for centralized management, security, backups, deployment speed and help-desk overhead.

The department implemented Citrix virtualization (WinFrame, XenApp and XenServer) to centrally deliver applications and virtualize its 253‑server farm, enabling fast provisioning and simplified management. The move cut installation time from four weeks to two days, increased installations fivefold, extended hardware life (3→8 years), improved security and backup centralization, and supports 11,000 users (≈2,000 peak concurrent), with workstation virtualization pilots underway to broaden services.
