ABB Schweiz - Customer Case Study

ABB Schweiz AG, a global power and automation technology leader, needed to provision high-performance CAD desktops for a new engineering center in Bangalore within seven months. The company faced a WAN bottleneck—central engineering databases remained in Switzerland and the network could not support remote processing of large CAD datasets, while building a local database in India would have been slow and created heavy WAN traffic.

ABB deployed XenDesktop with HDX 3D Pro (backed by XenServer, NetScaler and NVIDIA Quadro GPUs) to compress and GPU-accelerate CAD graphics so users could run Siemens Solid Edge and Autodesk E3.series over WAN with as little as ~2 Mbps per user. The solution delivered high-definition CAD performance on standard notebooks, kept sensitive design data centralized and secure, enabled rapid provisioning (supporting expansion to Poland), and allowed the Bangalore center to start on time while reducing bandwidth needs by about 90%.
