Case Study: SickKids Foundation boosts donations and global awareness with Citizen Relations’ Balloon Spotting campaign

A Citizen Relations Case Study

SickKids Foundation boosts donations 44.1% with Citizen Relations

The SickKids Foundation faced the challenge of fundraising in a climate where Canadian charitable donations were at a 20-year low. With the perception that SickKids did not have the greatest financial need, the foundation struggled to connect with potential donors. Citizen Relations was engaged to help the SickKids Foundation earn a place in donors' hearts and minds and remind them of the hospital's vital global importance as it approached its 150th anniversary.

Citizen Relations launched the "Balloon Spotting" campaign, an experiential initiative that placed 150 blue balloon sculptures worldwide to commemorate unique stories of SickKids' impact. This effort generated over 502 million earned media impressions and was the biggest PR campaign in the hospital's history. The campaign resulted in a 44.1% increase in donation revenue, a 31% increase in the number of donors, and a 50.9% increase in the average donation size for the SickKids Foundation.
